In December Forbes published an article “Historic Districts are Ruining Cities,” which you can read here https://cutt.ly/Crn2J5F. The article is wrong.
In response PlaceEconomics, which over the last five years has conducted analyses of the impacts of preservation on a city level basis across the country, wrote a White Paper “Twenty-Four Reasons Why Historic Preservation Is Good for Your Community.”
We are pleased to share that results from the recent economic impact study that was completed in partnership with the The City of Saratoga Springs, NY are included in the White Paper. Also included are the studies PlaceEconomics did in Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Savannah, San Antonio, New York City, Indianapolis, Nashville, Miami/Dade County, and the soon to be released study in Los Angeles.
You can read “Twenty-Four Reasons Why Historic Preservation Is Good for Your Community” here https://cutt.ly/crn2KDS and you can read “Saratoga Springs: Enhancing the Values Through Historic Preservation” here https://cutt.ly/crn2ZAe. The study of Saratoga Springs was funded through a Certified Local Government grant through the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation an by The Community / Land Preservation and Planning Fund of The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region.
Here’s hoping 2020 will be a year filled with many more preservation success stories!
