$35

Flashback to 1976 with Carol Godette as she uses historic photos from Patti Croop to take a virtual “Walk Down Broadway” alongside modern images. Explore this pivotal year and the evolution of Broadway. From mom-and-pop stores to significant architectural changes, this program will offer a nostalgic and insightful look at the businesses and streetscapes that shaped Saratoga’s past.

Carol was born and raised in Saratoga Springs and is a retired teacher from both Greenfield Elementary and Lake Avenue Schools. She is a 2022 Saratoga County History Award recipient, a board member of SoBro Conservancy, and a frequent presenter for the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. Carol Godette’s recent book “On This Spot, Saratoga Springs” highlights some of the Broadway businesses that will be highlighted during this program.

LUNCH & LEARN

“The Life and Times of Chauncey Olcott: Saratoga and Beyond,” with Mary Ann Fitzgerald

Join City Historian, Mary Ann Fitzgerald, as she explores the fascinating life and career of Chauncey Olcott, the renowned American stage actor, songwriter, and singer who once called Clinton Street home. Chauncey and his wife, Rita, were deeply involved in the Saratoga Springs community and embraced all the city had to offer.

Mary Ann will trace Olcott’s journey as he wrote and performed in musical productions across the country, many of which graced the stage of Saratoga’s Town Hall Theatre—now the Anthony “Skip” Scirocco Music Hall on the third floor of City Hall. Born and raised in Saratoga, Mary Ann graduated from and worked at Skidmore College before joining the Saratoga Springs History Museum, where she managed the George S. Bolster Collection from 2001 until her appointment as City Historian in 2004.

Lunch & Learn will start at 12PM at the Senator Edgar T. Brackett House, 605 North Broadway, in the Carriage House at the rear of the property. Lunch will be provided by The Bread Basket Bakery. Parking is available along North Broadway and Woodlawn Avenue.
